Healthy BBQ Recipes!

Summer has finally made its long awaited appearance, and that means long weekends, flip flops and barbecues. The good news is that barbecues usually mean grilling… and grilling lends itself to having really great and healthy options if  you want to stay slim throughout the summer! Grilling your meals means that you can add a ton of flavor without too much fat to some of your favorite dishes. Here are 2 of our favorite dishes to grill or to bring to those long weekend potlucks!

Don’t let the “turkey” in turkey burgers fool you… these patties are full of flavor. With 370 calories, 35g protein, 29g carbohydrate, 13g fat, 5g fiber per serving – these burgers fit nicely into your Mix and Match Diet Plan!

2 teaspoons avocado oil or macadamia nut oil
1/2 cup minced onions
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
3 tablespoons reduced-fat sour cream
4 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 pounds lean ground turkey
Nonstick cooking spray
3 ounces feta or blue cheese crumbled
6 whole wheat hamburger buns, split
firm, ripe tomatoes, sliced 1/4-inch thick
1 just-ripe avocado, thinly sliced
1 medium red onion, thinly sliced

1. In a small skillet, warm the olive oil over medium heat. Saute the scallions until just softened, about 2 minutes. Transfer to a medium bowl, season with the salt and black pepper and let cool. Stir in the sour cream and Worcestershire sauce; add the turkey and mix gently until just combined. Form into 6 patties.
2. Heat a grill to medium-high. Mist grill with cooking spray and cook burgers 5 minutes. Turn and grill until almost cooked through, about 3 minutes more. Top each burger with some of the blue cheese; cook 1 to 2 minutes more or until burgers are just cooked through and cheese is melted.
3. Arrange burgers on buns and top with sliced tomato, avocado, and red onion.

4 large unpeeled bananas

8 teaspoons semisweet chocolate chips
8 teaspoons trail mix
1/4 cup miniature marshmallows
1. Place each banana on a 12-in. square of foil; crimp and shape foil around bananas so they sit flat.
2. Cut each banana lengthwise about 1/2 in. deep, leaving 1/2 in. uncut at both ends. Gently pull each banana peel open, forming a pocket. Fill pockets with chocolate chips, trail mix and marshmallows.
3. Grill bananas, covered, over medium heat for 4-5 minutes or until marshmallows are melted
