How to Get your Pre-Baby Body Back

Pregnancy is often difficult to bounce back from—but once you’ve finally welcomed your new baby and you start getting into a routine, it’s time to start thinking about getting back into your pre-baby shape. Remember to start slow. Your weight-loss goals are attainable, but like most difficult tasks, getting back to your natural shape will take some dedication and work. Start by integrating as much walking into your daily life as you can. Take the long way when possible, do a couple extra runs up and down the stairs, or take your baby out for walks.

Bring some exercise equipment into the house, such as a treadmill or light free weights, as you may find it hard to get to the gym with your new bundle of joy. Ensuring your muscles are strong is very important to getting back to your slim body. You can also bring your baby into your exercise regime. Lie on your back and gently hold your baby, extending your arms and slowly bringing him or her back to your face. You can reward yourself with a kiss or give him or her a funny face as you’re doing it—it’s a great game to play by subtly getting in some strength training. Be creative, and fit in exercise wherever you can—you can even do lunges while you’re out with the stroller.

Also, be sure to watch the foods you have around the house. No doubt you’ll be doing your fair share of quick grabbing and snacking, so make sure your kitchen is packed with healthy snacks like fresh fruits and veggies. Remember small, healthy snacks throughout the day are the perfect way to boost your energy.

Make connections with other new moms in your neighborhood. They’ll be able to relate to the challenges that you’re having, and not only will you be great motivators for one another, but you can also share the same fitness goals and exchange stories about your newborns.

If you can’t find a gym that provides daycare, don’t be afraid to get Dad, a babysitter or a friend to look after your new baby as you go to the gym for a quick workout. Remember that regular exercise not only helps you get back your great shape, but also keeps you energized and healthy, which is just what you’ll need to take care of your new bundle of joy!
