Home Spa Ideas
Let’s face it—dieting can be stressful, but a relaxing trip to the spa is the perfect remedy for a hectic work week. Unfortunately, our schedules (and wallets) prohibit us from visiting the spa as much as we’d like. But, with just a little creativity, you can transform your bathroom into your very own personal spa and give yourself just a little bit of time to let your worries melt away.
It’s important to find some time to devote to yourself, so try and set aside about 30 minutes when you won’t be interrupted. Spas are all about spoiling the senses so keep this in mind when setting up your own home spa outing. Music can do wonders to help you relax, so try and get a soothing meditation CD, something with calming instrumental music. You’ll want to keep the volume relatively low so it doesn’t distract and remember to keep all electronics away from water.
Create soft lighting and light a few aromatherapy candles for that extra ambiance—definitely a welcome change from the harsh fluorescent lighting most of us have to endure at work. Essential oils or incense can also add some sensory appeal. Lavender and chamomile are especially good for relaxation.
Let’s not forget the importance of touch. Further enhance your experience by making sure you have lots of fluffy towels at your disposal. Terry cloth robes and cushion slippers are perfect additions to any spa treatment. If you’re going to take a bath, be sure to have an inflatable bath pillow on hand to rest your head and tired neck. Make sure your towels, robe, and slippers are within grasping distance to minimize the cold air on wet skin.
If you’re looking for a great facial treatment, try applying a thin layer of raw egg yolks over your face. Room to cold temperature works best for allowing the vitamin A found in the yolks to reduce pore size. You can also slice some cool cucumber to put over your eyes to reduce puffiness and dark circles. The cold will shrink the swelling, constricting blood vessels and ensuring there is no fluid buildup in this very sensitive area. Cool, wet tea bags also work quite well for this.
Use just some of these tips and tricks and you can have your very own spa haven, leaving you relaxed and rejuvenated and ready to take on your next challenge.
