How many of you eat immediately after your workout? **crickets**
I know for a fact that many of you ladies do not. Reason being? Exercise, immediately after, tends to have a type of appetite-suppression response. While this is fantastic, it is still extremely important to have the proper nutrition immediately following an intense workout.
The reason being is that your muscles are spent, and depleted and need those nutrients so that they can recover. Muscles are not made in the actual workout itself (this is when you are actually breaking the muscle down). Instead, muscles are created through the food that you feed them after a nice workout.
So what exactly qualifies as a “good” post workout meal? The proper combination of carbs and protein is ideal, fat is not useful immediately following a workout – much better reserved for later in the day, but more on that later. Below is an example of a fantastic post workout smoothie that will have your muscles well fed and prevent you becoming extremely ravenous later… which can then lead to less-than-healthy food choices.

1 scoop of chocolate whey protein
6 oz. skim chocolate milk or chocolate almond milk
1/2 medium banana (preferably frozen)
